Fort Reno Free Summer Concerts

I take the DC metro to and from work every day and I always see tons of people diving into barely closed metro car doors. If you’re bored after work, throw out your plans of sitting in front of a computer screen and whip out your best indie dance moves at Fort Reno near the AU metro stop.

Fort Reno hosts FREE summer concerts and has been doing so for several years. Fort Reno’s concerts attract many indie rock, pop, and post punk fans with their incredible line ups. Notable veterans, Fugazi, used to play Fort Reno every year.

Tonight DC’s Mass Movement of the Moth cranks out their dancey, post hardcore jams. On July 31, Ian Mackaye and Amy Farina’s band, The Evens, will be playing. To see what else is coming up go here: www.fortreno.com

Icy Demons @ Tonic 7/19

Quite a scene last night at Tonic. The moderately sized crowd (Good for a Wednesday night no doubt) of hipsters and, well, music dorks like me, witnessed an amazing show by the likes of the Icy Demons. The Philly and Chicago based spazz-jazzy-soulful blues-chamber music meets My Bloody Valentine inspired outfit, which includes members of Man Man and Need New Body, displayed all their musical influences and skills (each member played a different instrument for almost every song) by blazing through a smooth set of songs off their 2004 longplayer “Fight Back!” and their forthcoming masterpiece “Tears Of A Clone.” “Tears” comes on September 12th and I’m sure when it finally lands in the hands of the rest of the world, it will make countless top ten lists. Look out for it.

The ubiquitous Henry Rollins

Henry Rollins is everywhere and I can’t get enough of it. Although, I was never really much of a fan of his music, (Black Flag sounded better with its 100 interchangable vocalists and I just never really had an interest in the Rollins band), I love Rollins’ personality. He rages about the same stuff I do, like how Harry Potter is NOT adult reading. If you’re like me, then the info in this entry should be useful.

Sign Up for Henry’s email list here and get a quarterly newsletter from him: http://21361.com/site_2004/email.html

Watch the Henry Rollins Show on the IFC Channel (you lucky bastards with your fancy cable) Saturday nights at 10pm. Alfie claims its the funniest show ever. More info about it here: http://henryrollins.ifc.com/?referer=http://www.ifctv.com%2Fhenry

[Edit-Alfie] - Funniest Henry Rollins Show quote:
“Thanks to my guest Michael Chiklis. Coming up next, Dinosaur Jr, but first, a letter to my 1st grade teacher”

Henry Rollins has radio show too! Its called Harmony In My Head and airs 8 -10 pst on the LA station 103.1 FM. You don’t have to be in LA to listen to it because this link here: http://www.rollins-archive.com/blog/

If you want books by Henry Rollins go to a book store, duh.

If you want to stand in the same room as Rollins then your best bet is to go to the As the World Burns Tour with The Rollins Band/X/ and The Riverboat Gamblers when it stops in a town near you. Dates here: http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?By=All&Content=as+the+world+burns

N.Y.H.C 2 The MAX

I felt like I should have a proper introduction, thus, this post. So, hi. My name is Matt and I do in fact love Madball. I heart them actually. My hopes for this blog are to expand upon all those juenvile blogs out there that just report gossip and bullshit scene crap that all the worthless individals thrive on. Elona, Alfie and I’s goal is to create a tribute to all the various aspects of the alternative music and art scene that we all hold so much esteem for.

sorry, if that is not proof-read (I’m at work…big brother is watching)

Once I finally get internet in my ungodly-”why is this happening to me?”-A.C-Less Till Sunday Apartment, I will be posting on this like no other. There have been a ton of amazing shows lately that need to written about (Lifetime, Cursive, The Weakerthans, Siren Fest, etc.) Oh, reviews will follow. Do not fret.
