Prophecy - The Stooges will play the last of CB’s shows, now be fruitful and multiply.

Now this isn’t news but I just wanted to record my suspicion of the great garage band, The Stooges, playing the last of CBGB’s shows so if I’m indeed right then people will start respecting me and later this blog.
This week I have been reading Brooklyn Vegan ( their link is posted on the side bar) and it seems like decaying bands are being added to the last of CB’s show left and right. Too bad many of these are lackluster bands. I personally don’t find the fact that The “Dead Kennedys” are booked exciting unless Jello gets up on stage. On Brooklyn Vegan it was also noted that Flipper has been added to the list and the last time they played CBGB the singer was using a cane and was aided by a heart monitor. The Angry Samoans are lined up too but will spouting “They saved Hitler’s cock” be as funny coming from a middle aged guy and not a squeaky throat kid? I think it will be kinda creepy.
If CBGB wants half dead bands to play at their dead club then they should book the only reunited band that matters, The Stooges. Iggy Pop doesn’t need a heart monitor to make sure he doesn’t get too excited when he is humping loud speakers… or your girlfriend in the front row. Iggy is a true madman on stage and it only gets better because the legendary Mike Watt is on bass.
There are a couple of facts coupled with my geek fandom that makes me hope and believe The Stooges will play. First, The Stooges are working on a new album, which is going to be engineered by Steve Albini, out in Spring 2007(http://www.punknews.org/article/16934). Don’t you think the hype of a last CBGB show get people interested in their new release and devour naysayer’s gaggle about how the new Stooges record will sound as bad as Skull Ring? They might even play some new awesome songs. Second, in 2004 The Stooges played Little Steven’s Underground Garage Festival, along side several other bands like The Pretty Things, Bo Diddley, etc, in NYC for only 20 dollars!! (http://www.mondogordo.com/news0704.html) They obviously aren’t doing it for the money but for the love of playing and the fans so why wouldn’t they play CBGB? Its an imitate club and with lots of things for Iggy to climb on.
CBGB should understand that this is the only way for their club to go out with some dignity but they will probably just book Murphy’s Law and say the hell with it.
