The Ergs!/The Steinways/The Unlovables/The Measure (SA)/Short Attention | Lit Lounge | 2/21/07

I’d been anticipating this show for a while, so after work I got some Chinese food for dinner and took my time strolling downtown to Lit Lounge to check it out. Literally the heart and soul of pop-punk, this lineup was probably one of the heights of the NY punk social season. Despite advertising, the show didn’t start until about 9, which was fine and gave Matt P. and I plenty of time to start pouring liquid courage down our necks. Keep this in mind as it’s a prevalent theme throughout the night.

Downstairs, Short Attention begin to play. Composed of (from what I could tell) Mike Erg and one of the members of the Steinways, among others, Short Attention kicked the night off with a bang. I never really thought that an ode to cabbage could kick so much ass. Their short songs are just bursts of awesome and incredibly funny. The crowd at the front of the stage had already started hardcore singing along. If you get a chance, check them out.

Moz Touring The States In April

According to the Trip Wire, Morrissey will be embarking on a full-North American tour starting in April. Dates and venues have yet to be finalized but the total number of shows should range in the 40s and Kristeen Young will be opening on all dates.

Stayed tuned for further updates. In the meantime, check out the video for “In The Future When All Is Well” below.

First Peek of Against Me!’s "New Wave"

(Photo-Warped Tour-Uniondale, NY-8-5-06)

The band everyone loves to hate (except me), Against Me! has posted a live video of a new song entitled “White People For Peace.” The song is off their highly anticipated major label debut New Wave, which will be released on Sire sometime this Spring.

The band just kicked off a cross-country tour with the Riverboat Gamblers and Fake Problems. The closest they’ll get to NYC is Sayreville, NJ on 3/2 at the Starland Ballroom.

Check out the new video/song below. Opinions?

Also, check out an old interview I did with Tom in August at the Warped Tour here.

Interview With Ryan Peters Of Ladyhawk

Picture of Jagjaguwar

Every once and awhile you come across a band that reminds you why music is the love of your life. At this year’s CMJ Music Festival, I came across such a band. I was eager to get a sense of who this band is, and what I learned is that they are a band of friends, who came together to do what they loved; making music that, according to them, is melodic and mellow at times, but also heavy at others, but mostly just straightforward rock and roll.

The band’s self-titled debut was released by Jagjaguwar last year and they have been touring in support of it ever since. I got to speak with drummer Ryan Peters about who Ladyhawk is and what the future has in store for the young band.

First off, I have to ask where did the name come from?
We were having a hard time coming up with something crucial. Duffy thought of Ladyhawk in a dream. We all thought it was dumb but we partied on it for a couple of days till it was less lame I guess. We just tried to imagine this big beautiful naked lady with wings flying around. Looking back now I guess we were feeling the same “animals are cool” vibe everyone else in the world was but at least our name isn’t Wolfhawk. Hey, that sounds like “we’ll fuck,” sweet.

Jesu U.S Tour Postponed

Bad news Jesu fans (on the West Coast, at least); the band has been forced to postpone their first U.S tour due to their permits not being cleared on time. The announcement was made on the band’s Myspace

“We are sorry to report that Jesu are still stuck in England and will NOT be playing the Spaceland, L.A headline/release party ; work permits for Jesu have still not been cleared by U.S officials/customs and the band are not allowed into the U.S until the permits are officially cleared. The band are yet to receive a date of clearance and simply have to wait until they do so before entering the U.S, hence Jesu will not be appearing at any shows with ISIS until the permits are available and Jesu can leave England.”

Jesu mastermind Justin K. Broadrick hopes that the tour will only be delayed for a week and as soon as everything is cleared, the band will join up with Isis for their co-headlining tour.
NYC faithful shouldn’t worry just yet because the band isn’t heading around these parts till March 14th at Irving Plaza.

If you haven’t picked up the new album Conqueror yet, you can listen to it here.
