Wilco To Stream New Album Again, Tour

I received this wonderful note courtesy of the Wilco mailing list:”greetings friends,
as part of our ongoing effort to rock the homes, offices, dorms, and internet cafes of America and the world — we’re starting another on- demand stream of Sky Blue Sky on Sunday night at 12:01 a.m. Central time and continuing it non-stop for 24 straight hours. Make a note of it.”

Wilco previously did an on-demand stream of Sky Blue Sky (Nonesuch) at wilcoworld.net on March 11th. If you missed it, now’s your chance to give it a listen. I gave it a few listens and am very excited about the release on May 15th.

Wilco currently has two US tour dates set- Chicago’s Vic Theatre on April 6th (Jeff Tweedy solo) and Bonnaroo on June 17. Then they head abroad to Australia for the rest of April and Europe for most of May. As far as other US tour dates are concerned, the e-mail also noted to check their website because “more dates for June (mostly eastern half of North America) will be on the site next week.”

Fifth Hour Hero Break Up

Punknews.org is reporting that Fifth Hour Hero will call it quits after their current tour with Smoke Or Fire and Tim Barry. The band released the stellar Not Revenge…Just A Vicious Crush on No Idea last year.

Bassist Mathieu Guilbault explained their decision:
“But, we’ve been going through that kind of stuff for the last seven years. It’s common for people in bands to deal with this, but I don’t know a lot of bands that stuck around for that long with the popularity and support we had. A lot of the bands we met along the way got deals from bigger labels. They got tour support, sponsorships, royalties, etc. We never really seriously looked for that and no one did it for us. The business side of being in a band never charmed us. Some people will admire us for that and some people will tell us we should’ve gotten our shit together. I don’t think there is a right or wrong, it’s just how we are. We were never doing it for the money and we never made any money with this band. We were just happy to live new experiences and to travel the world.”

The band’s final shows will be in Quebec with fellow canucks the Sainte Catherines.

The Long Winters, The Great Scott | Allston, MA | 3/29/07

Northwest rockers The Long Winters played a nice, intimate set at the Allston, MA bar The Great Scott last night and thoroughly dominated the tiny stage. Frontman John Roderick’s powerful and passionate voice resonated throughout the venue, despite his earlier statements of feeling under the weather. The charismatic group had the entire audience smiling while they played their indie-rock jam with the occasional humorous banter thrown in between songs.

Band Spotlight: Hysterics

Hysterics are a neo-psychedelic pop rock outfit from Brooklyn. The first time I saw them was last April at Warsaw when they opened for Regina Spektor. Warsaw was far from filled when they took the stage, but when they started playing, it was musical crush at first listen. The young men who make up Hysterics captured my attention with their modern twist on classic sounds. They sound more like The Beatles and The Zombies than any of the indie rock acts currently floating around. Their music is genre-bending pop, and the careful listener will hear elements of blues, soul, and rock n’ roll.Hysterics received a lot of hype, and even a “You Hear It First” spot on MTV courtesy of their music being posted on the blog Music For Robots. The band was signed to V2 Records for a bit before V2 decided to go into catalogues. According to their myspace, they plan on self-releasing their album.
