Of Montreal Add New Tour Dates, Network TV Debut in April

According to Pitchfork, on April 12 glittering indie pop band Of Montreal will make their network television debut by playing the Conan O Brien show. Two days later, they are strangely posing as a karaoke band at Brooklyn’s Studio B for an event for New York Magazine. Tickets go on sale today.

Besides playing at Coachella on April 27, Of Montreal has scheduled European dates during the months of April and June. Click here for dates.

Explosions in the Sky/The Paper Chase/Eluvium |The Middle East Downstairs - Cambridge, MA | 3/21/07

Instrumental music can always be a tough sell in a live setting, yet that didn’t seem to stop a sold out crowd at the Middle East for coming out to catch the Explosions in the Sky, Paper Chase, and Eluvium tour.

Opening act Eluvium (one-man ambient artist Matthew Cooper) spent his 45 minute set entrenched behind his Yamaha keyboard while a projector illuminated the stage with images of insects buzzing around. While I certainly have enjoyed his new album, Copia, it is tough to translate it into the live setting while you have hundreds of people talking loudly. Despite that, he built up slow moving synthesizer pieces that eventually developed into distorted, rhythmic movements that sometimes stretched on for 10 minutes. He occasionally threw in some guitar for a full wall-of-sound approach, which livened things up a bit. It’s a shame the crowd was yapping over him, because they missed out on a simple, but entrancing set.

Hand Over Fist

A recent editorial from our friends at the RIAA. Basically, the gist here is that their recent actions and aggressive stands against music downloading stems from a genuine concern to maintain jobs and artistic rights, as well as a moral obligation to teach a generation of college students (the primary target of the article) to steal for everything.

First off, where’d the focus on the elderly, the crippled, and the recently deceased go? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go look up some of the recent news regarding people targeted with legal actions by the RIAA.

O’Death Sign To Ernest Jennings

Brooklyn based O’Death has finally found an official home for their bluegrass-gone-punk madness with Ernest Jennings Record Co. CMJ is reporting that the band will first re-release a remastered version of Head Home, before working on a new album.

The band just played SXSW and has a few shows lined up in the next few weeks. Check them out here.

Rock The Bells Ticket Info Posted


As you may have heard, this year’s Rock The Bells music fest will feature a reunited Rage Against The Machine as well as long-running, hip hop legends the Wu-Tang Clan. Tickets will go on sale on March 31st at 10am. The NYC date will take place on Saturday, July 28th at Randall’s Island.

If the double whammy of Rage and Wu-Tang wasn’t enough, you can expect a full lineup announcement on March 26th.
