!!! / Maserati | Studio B, Brooklyn, NY | 05/30/07

Instrumental rockers Maserati opened up the !!! show at Studio B last night and left a favorable impression on the sold out crowd with their forceful, guitar-driven rock. !!! were extremely energetic (as usual) and danced and jumped all over the stage while demonstrating they are truly the best dance-punk band around.

More photos of the Maserati and !!! can be found here. Elona’s review of !!! in Washington, D.C. can be read here.

Fucked Up Announce Summer ‘07 Plans

Looks like LNWF favorites Fucked Up are going to have a busy summer ahead of them. Not only are they releasing yet another 12-inch, but they will be playing shows from coast-to-coast over the next few months, including three NYC dates.

The band will be bringing their new 12-inch “Year Of The Pig” on tour with them, selling it at shows before it’s release date in August through What’s Your Rupture?.

Joining them on select dates will be Battles, Limp Wrist, Pissed Jeans, Modern Life Is War, Dustheads, among others.
The tour’s kick off will have them playing Hidden World (Jade Tree) it’s in entirety. The show is a benefit for the SPOC (Sex Professionals of Canada), who work to make prostitution (which is not illegal up there) a “safer occupation for its practitioners.”

Be sure to check the band’s site for updates because some of the locations at certain stops are still being hashed out.

Tim Fite Busts Out His Guns

Having conquered the world of hip-hop and indie, most recently with his Internet only release Over The Counter Culture, Brooklynite Tim Fite has set his sights on a new project. What you may ask? A GUNSHOW of course!

Every Wednesday for the next eight weeks, he will present a new GUNSHOW at his website. According to the press release, GUNSHOW will be a “temporary exhibition of guns and a series of new videos” which will “make you laugh, cry, scream, smile, and think.” Judging by the first video, we are in for a journey of R. Kelly-esque proportions. But even more awesome. Follow the link for the first video and tour dates.

The Science Of The "Summer Record"

A discussion with a fellow classmate last night brought up the interesting subject of “summer records.” I’d never really thought of it because it almost always comes to me naturally, but I realized I didn’t have one either.
Just what makes a summer album anyway? It’s that one single album (or in some cases, a single band, which expands into “summer band”) that can carry you throughout the entire summer. And not only that, but it’s timeless, arguably applicable through multiple summers. Because let’s face it, we’re not that young anymore.

I, like so many others, spend most of my summers working with occasional time off when I can grab it. Not to mention summer school, a necessary option for the frantic graduate student on the go like me. Gone are the summers of hanging out all day at the beach, doing nothing all day and hanging out at the deli, or bar or in some lover’s hideaway thinking you’re oh-so-smart and clever all night.
