TV On The Radio | McCarren Pool, Brooklyn, NY | 7/29/07

Brooklyn’s own TV On The Radio (or TV On the Rain-dio as I heard someone call it…not funny), played on yesterday despite the initial pouring rain and crazy thunderstorms. The group played lots of older tracks, like “Young Liars,” but also snuck in some new ones like “Blues From Down Here” and “Wolf Like Me.” Of course, they ended with the fan favorite “Staring At The Sun,” which had pretty much everyone in attendance dancing like crazy, despite being soaking wet.

Antelope | Fort Reno, D.C. | 07/26/07

“What the fuck is this?” That’s what I was thinking the first time I saw Antelope play last summer. All of their songs sounded very similar and consisted of two or three chords and the same phrases repeated over and over, which were mostly about demons and ghosts. Now, a year has passed and they are one of my favorite bands. In a year’s time I’ve grown to appreciate what they were doing which is emphasizing minimalism. Yes, the music is very simple and down right repetitious but I find that pretty appealing considering that many popular bands are so loaded with over the top guitars and complicated lyrics.
