Have you ever had one of those moments when a show became more than just a couple of people banging on their instruments for forty-five minutes? It may have been the fact that all of the fans of Fear Before the March of Flames had cleared out. It may have been the fact that here were four guys from England, who had been through customs and visa hell for the past week, and hadn’t slept more than two hours in days. Maybe it was the fact that it was their second show in the United States ever. Either way, 65daysofstatic barely made their way on to the stage (courtesy of Club Europa letting the show run late so they could play) and you could just see the exhaustion in these guys.

Their music, a mix of Mogwai and Squarepusher as I always have described it, mixes heavy post-rock elements with crushing electronic beats, to make a mix of epic sounding proportions. Even though not one lyric was spoken, the group poured out their souls through their instruments by playing as if it was their last gig ever. Instruments and bodies flailed as if they were on cohesive unit. Drummer and drum machine became one and the sounds merged together to create a sweltering back beat that never stopped. It didn’t matter that they only played five songs and that the sound may have been off. After seeing a group who had gone through our modern version of hell, all from trying to enter another country, it was clear that they weren’t going to just phone it in for the 20 or 30 people who had stayed to watch their debut. If you catch this tour, and you should, do not miss this band.Photos from the show, including opening acts Fear Before the March of Flames and Youinseries can be found here and after the jump.

Oh how I wish I was there. Legend in the making.
