Of Montreal Announce Fall Tour

If The Smiths and a glam David Bowie decided to collaborate (or somehow make a baby) it would probably sound and look a lot like Of Montreal. Like Moz, Kevin Barnes pens depressingly honest lyrics but they also sit alongside songs about playful, imaginative dreamlands much like Bowie’s songs. Plus, let’s not forget that Barnes and the gang basically owe everything to Bowie when it comes to their theatrical live shows which can be summed up in four words: bright colors and nudity. If you haven’t gotten the chance to see Of Montreal in action you can catch them in the fall. Click read more for dates and a “kinky” video.

American Steel To "Destroy Their Future" In Fall

Hot damn kids! Tons of American Steel news! First things first; the band will release their new album Destroy Their Future on October 3rd via Fat Wreck. The band had this to say about the new album on their myspace page.

“Ok ok, so a little of the first record, a little more like Rogue’s March, a smattering of Jagged Thoughts and then some of it’s own new jam. If that even makes any sense. I’m not so sure after reading all that. We got a big name producer and engineer (at least in our world), who also wrote all the songs and babysat us. Ourselves. We’ll be posting some shiza pretty soon so stay tuned.”

Along with the new album info, American Steel has announced participation in the “8th Annual Unbelievable Self-Indulgence Fest” tour, which will feature the Lawrence Arms and all their related projects (The Falcon, Sundowner). Of course, we all know that the tour is heading straight for the Fest VI.

Ruiner (And Naked Raygun?) Playing The Fest 6

Yesterday Ruiner made a Myspace bulletin announcing that they are confirmed to play The Fest 6 this October alongside several other bands, including Naked Raygun. So far, the official site for The Fest doesn’t have any listed confirmations. Last year The Bomb, headed by Jeff Pezzati, played a few Naked Raygun songs during their set at The Fest 5. Below is the original Myspace bulletin posted by Ruiner:

“RUINER IS ON THE FEST 6 IN GAINESVILLE FL!:
So we need a place to crash all 3 days. Can anyone help us?
www.thefestfl.com
A ton of bands have been confirmed… Naked Raygun, matt and kim, Seaweed, Dillinger Four, Torche, Avail, Municipal Waste, 108, The Marked Men, Lawrence Arms, Paint It Black, Lifetime and a shit load more
Playing the fest will partly coincide with a semi US tour attempting at making up roughly all the dates we missed this summer. Expect an announcement soon about that.”

The Making Of Modern Life Is War’s "Midnight In America"

Modern Life Is War made a short video documenting the making of their upcoming record, Midnight In America, out August 21 on their new label Equal Vision. The video is pretty much exactly how I thought it was going to be; more shots of what they do while they are wasting time on the road and less informational scenes about what inspired their songs and recording with J. Robbins.

The new tracks that can be heard in the video hint that they’re taking the new album in a much different direction than Witness (Deathwish). The songs are much slower and even include a cover of the folk song “Stagger Lee.”

In the past two years MLIW have toured almost nonstop. The beauty of their previous releases was that the lyrics focused on the day to day life of living in a slow town in middle America. By being away from their muse I wonder where they will draw inspiration from for this new album. Speaking of touring, the band is currently on tour with He Is Legend, Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, and Paulson. Click read more for dates and the video of the making of their new CD.
