65daysofstatic | Europa, Brooklyn, NY | 07/20/07

Have you ever had one of those moments when a show became more than just a couple of people banging on their instruments for forty-five minutes? It may have been the fact that all of the fans of Fear Before the March of Flames had cleared out. It may have been the fact that here were four guys from England, who had been through customs and visa hell for the past week, and hadn’t slept more than two hours in days. Maybe it was the fact that it was their second show in the United States ever. Either way, 65daysofstatic barely made their way on to the stage (courtesy of Club Europa letting the show run late so they could play) and you could just see the exhaustion in these guys.

Ruiner Cancel Summer Tour

It seems that their last record, What Could Possibly Go Right, was aptly named, since recent Bridge 9 Record signees Ruiner were unfortunately forced to cancel their summer tour due to consistent van issues. The band was left stranded in New Mexico and somehow made their way back to their homes in Baltimore after a 30+ hour drive. A fall European tour in support of their newest effort, Prepare To Be Let Down, has already been announced and the group promises to make up whatever shows they missed by canceling the tour. “Its currently 5:07am here in Baltimore. We just drove (some of us in the back) of a Uhaul truck from Los Cruses NM to home in about 30+ hours. We are very sorry to say we have to cancel the rest of our summer tour. Our van is no more and we spent more money then we will probably ever admit on it. This band has never been the kinda dudes who give up but we have entirely to much planned in the future to totally fuck ourselves financially.

Show Round Up: July 19th:

Things have been kinda slow with all of us here at LNWF. Probably because we are wasting away in an AC-fueled haven, eating tubs of Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream, curled up in a ball, and cursing the sun. Well, while we hide like a bunch of dweeby vampires, there’s still plenty of stuff to do this week for all of you “others.”

First off, our friend Ronen Kauffman is doing a reading and signing for his book New Brunswick, NJ, Goodbye at Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ tonight. Special guests are planned so get all the info here. Be on the look out for an interview I did with Ronen in the next few days.

On Friday, root-channelling revivalists Lewis and Clarke will celebrate the release of their new album Blasts of Holy Birth (La Société Expéditionnaire) at Brooklyn’s Soundfix. The band, made up also of members of Man Man and Rachels, will captivate all those Williamsburg hipsters like nobodies business. Go check them out!

Against Me! | Milk, NYC | 07/12/07

God, what a tough decision I had on Thursday night. Do I go to see Patton Oswalt at Soundfix in Brooklyn or Against Me! at the Spin party? Well, it was a tough one but after seeing AM! totally own (per usual), I definitely made the right decision. I was kinda surprised just how many people were packed into the tiny space, singing along and getting sweaty at an industry party.

Fresh off the release of their fantastic new full-length New Wave (Sire), the boys were on their game, playing new ones like “White People For Peace,” “Up The Cuts” and “Thrash Unreal,” along with old favorites like “Pints Of Guinness Make You Strong,” “Walking Is Still Honest,” “Sink, Florida, Sink” and “Problems.” Hell, even Bill Paxton was there. Yes, Bill Paxton.
