CMJ Music Marathon 2007 Preview

It’s here again; the CMJ Music Marathon is about to take over the city for a week of shows, film and free drinks. Here are some things we think are worth your time during this week. Remember, the perfect hang over solution is the following: 1 Advil (can be replaced by Tylenol), 1 Revive Vitamin Water (Can be replaced with XXX or that Orange one) and 1 (maybe 2) Red Bulls (can replaced with, duh, coffee).
As always, the week’s festivities get started tonight with the Syndicate’s annual Conflict of Industry Party. This year’s party will include performances by World/Inferno Friendship Society, our friends The King Left, We Are Scientists, among many others. Also, guest DJ Sets by Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, and of course, Nathan Explosion from the almighty gods of metal …Dethklok. For more info, check out the Syn’s Blog.
Tuesday has a kick ass lineup at Webster Hall with a double whammy of Jersey legends, Lifetime and the Bouncing Souls. Modern Life Is War will open it up, so you can definitely expect a great show that night. Also, Weston will be at the Mercury Lounge with Garrett Klahn of Texas is the Reason and Jesse and Vin from Brand New.
Wednesday: What just might be the highlight of the Marathon, in my book at least, this year’s Pirate PR Party at Arlene’s Grocery will have an early afternoon performance from none other than Billy Bragg. But, once again, get there early, because the man will be going on around 12-1pm. Along with Mr. Bragg, the always amazing Tim Fite, Imperial Teen, Bella, Most Serene Republic, and Cadence Weapon will be there.
That night, for all your hipsters out there, Dan Deacon, Deerhunter, No Age will be at the always impossible to get into Bowery Ballroom. Also, The Walkmen and Mates Of State will be playing at the Avalon.
Thursday is the day of the very, very sold out Mutiny PR/Punknews.org showcase with American Steel, Tim Barry, the Loved Ones, Smoke Or Fire, Sundowner, The Falcon. Get there early and maybe you can smooth talk your way into the Tap Bar for this jam-packed showcase.
If you don’t feel like dealing with that, And You Will Know Us By Trail Of Dead, Enon, and Islands will be at Highline Ballroom
And after all your drunken escapades, Spoon (who are performing several times during the week) will be at Blender Theater at Gramercy around midnight.
Friday, be sure to hop on the Boat Cruise with Lawrence Arms, American Steel and the Falcon. Sure to be a good ol’ drunken time. Get there early! Also, Takka Takka and O’Death will be wailing away at Union Pool.
On Saturday, the almighty Jesu will be at the Blender Theater. Early on in the day, be sure to get over to the Bowery Poetry Club for the Red Leader Records showcase featuring some of our favorites the New Dress, Dear Tonight, Polar Bear Club, among a ton more.
Also, the Larry Arms will be playing again at the Hook in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Matt and Kim will be rocking the Music Hall of Williamsburg.
Of course, if you don’t have a badge, most of these shows are open to the public. For more show, panel, and film info, be sure to check out CMJ’s Marathon page.
