Band Spotlight: Envy

Who: Envy
Background: Since 1992, they’ve been regarded as one of Japan’s musical pioneers. Some people throw around the terms “hardcore” or “screamo” in regards to their sound. Frankly, I think that is just foolish and lazy. The music is too complex to fit under a single classification.
What do they sound like?: Neurosis having a love-child with Explosions In The Sky.
Why YOU should listen: I know, Alfie told you to listen to them back in our awkward salad days. Even though we’ve highlighted the band before, I felt the need to do so again because of their stellar new “mini-album” Abyssal (Temporary Residence). Reflective and hushed one second, the band suddenly bombards your eardrums with a sludgy, wall of noise and harsh vocals. Envy always deliver a mind-blowing and mesmerizing experience.
Check out a new track, “All That’s Left Has Gone To Sleep,” below.

wow i can’t believe I never heard about this band before, I figured Easel was the only good thing coming out of Japan these days but Envy is straight up amazing
