The Best Of 2007: Kerri’s Picks

In regards to our next staff writer, I dare you to say that Wilco’s last album sucked. I triple dog dare you. Here’s what Kerri Fortune thought of 2007’s musical landscape.

I’m not going to do a “best of ” list because I’ve been rediscovering old artists this year and slacking on listening to new albums.

Anyways, here are some that I thought were jolly good fun. I’ll slap myself silly later for forgetting some.

In Rainbows- Radiohead
Sky Blue Sky - Wilco
The Favourite Game - Uppertiers
Ra Ra Riot [EP]- Ra Ra Riot
Kala - M.I.A.
Along the Quai - The Berg Sans Nipple
Hysterics - Hysterics
Volta - Bjork
Parades- Efterklang
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga - Spoon
23 - Blonde Redhead
Population - The Most Serene Republic
8 Diagrams - Wu-Tang Clan
Icky Thump - The White Stripes
Hvarf/Heim - Sigur Ros
It’s a Bit Complicated - Art Brut
Challengers - The New Pornographers
S/T - LSD and the Search for God
Boxer- The National
100 Days, 100 Nights- Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

Keep reading Kerri’s thoughts after the jump.

Danish and sort of Danish album from last year I think more people need to listen to:
Samme Stof Som Stof - Under Byen
Always Prattling on About Wolves - Said the Shark

Best personal musical experiences of 2007:
Low, Wilco live
Intense bedroom dance session to “Poppy Rock” by Acid Mothers Temple
Santogold, Klaxons, Bjork live
My imaginary slow dance with Erik Satie
Under Byen live
Receiving my Radiohead In Rainbows box in the mail. I did a jig.

Artists who need to put out their unreleased material:
Regina Spektor. Ok, I admit that I only made this category in hopes that Regina Spektor will google herself, look 15 pages into her search, and magically come across this plea because some of her unreleased songs are my favorite.

Movies I’m super excited to see and experience the soundtrack to before the year closes out:
There Will Be Blood (A film that involves Jonny Greenwood, PT Anderson, Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano–four men I want to bear hug)
Sweeney Todd (I’m a fan of showtunes. Don’t like it? We’ll dance fight it out.)
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
The Diving Bell & the Butterfly

Finally, Art Brut get some recognition!!!
Did you notice all big blogs totaly ignored ‘It’s a bit complicated’ in their top albums?
I’m grateful for blogs like yours and like <a href=”http://www.8hands.com/musicblog/The_8hands_Mega_Team_Puts_An_End_To_2007_Part_2″ rel=”nofollow”>this one</a> that actually remembered them.

Santogold is rad.
And sentences like “Intense bedroom dance session to “Poppy Rock” by Acid Mothers Temple” and “I did a jig.” make me love you more.
