Cursive have announced a gig at NYC’s Mercury Lounge on June 3rd. The band, who are recording their follow up to Happy Hollow, will be playing “95 percent” new material at this show. For more info, hit up the club’s site.
It’s my pleasure to announce that Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Pet Genius) will be stopping by Generation Records on May 25th for a free, in-store performance. Patti Smith and My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields’ performance of The Coral Sea will finally see a proper release. The double-disc documents a spoken word performance of Smith’s book of the same title with Shields providing guitar as the background. The recording is from two gigs that happened on June 22nd, 2005 and September 12th, 2006 at the QEH in London.
The work was a tribute to Smith’s late friend, photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The Coral Sea will be released on July 11 via their duo’s PASK imprint.
All the “tastemakers” have been blabberin’ about Prince’s set at Coachella this past weekend. The Purple One, apparently, blew minds with an oh-so-painfully-obvious cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.” Really? Of all the songs to cover by them? Ba ba ba boring! Oh well, I’m assuming some of you might actually like this shit so enjoy this uber-shaky video of his performance.
Russian Circles are hitting the road with the always-unpredictable and polarizing Daughters for an early summer tour. Whether it’s the deep throating of a mic or flashes of male nudity, just be careful if you plan on getting up front for Daughters. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. It’s well worth it though and you can find the dates after the jump.
