Islands Members Form Human Highway

Do you like those whacky Canadians pop-masters Islands (formerly the much beloved Unicorns)? Well, you are in luck. Band members Nick Thorburn and Jim Guthrie have decided to branch out and start their own side project, known as Human Highway. The group’s debut will apparently feature “hot man on man action” and is inspired by 1950s and 60’s soul and doo-wop music. The album, Moody Motorcycle, will be hitting store shelves via Suicide Squeeze Records on August 19th. No tracks or videos are available yet, sadly, but the group is promising a couple of one off dates throughout North America.

My Bloody Valentine To Headline ATP New York

The famed All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival is coming to New York. If you are a blog-surfing individual, I’m sure you’ve heard the lineup. You’ve got My Bloody Valentine’s first U.S. show in sixteen years. Along with that, you get Built To Spill, Shellac, Mogwai, Thurston Moore, and Meat Puppets, among a shit ton of others. On that note, anyone wanna buy me a ticket?

ATP NY goes down on September 19-21 in Monticello, NY. Full lineup after the jump.

All photos by Bill Shouldis

Saturday was the longest ABC No Rio matinee that I’ve ever been to. Definitely an odd lineup of bands but two made the five hour plus marathon well worth it. Those bands you ask? LNWF favorites Polar Bear Club and soon to be one our favorites (if not already) Scream Hello. Do yourself a favor and check out Polar Bear Club’s Sometimes Things Just Disappear and Scream Hello’s Smart and Stupid, both from our friends at Red Leader Records.  Check out some more pictures after the jump.

Album Review: Blacklisted - “Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God” (Deathwish, Inc.)

Two weeks ago was one of those bad, bad weeks where it rained when I was on my bike and it seemed that everyone I knew was too busy for me. A good friend called and invited me to come see Blacklisted with her in NYC and I quickly agreed knowing that a good hardcore show would let me forget the bullshit if only for a few minutes. There is a lot of buzz regarding the band’s new album Heavier than Heaven, Lonelier than God (Deathwish), which is by far their most provocative and intensely emotional release to date.
