Show Me Your Package: Torche - “Meanderthal”

Welcome to the first edition of our newest vinyl feature, Show Me Your Package. The concept is simple; records with amazing packaging that bring the uber-vinyl nerd in us out in full effect.

I guess it’s appropriate for us to break ground on this column with one of our favorite records from this year, Torche’s Meanderthal. While it’s still relatively new, this has to be one of the greatest vinyl packages ever assembled. Robotic Empire went crazy with the super elaborate detailing and they absolutely nailed it. The limited edition picture disc version has the artwork by Juan Montoya and Hydrahead founder/Isis leader Aaron Turner expanded into a deluxe, die-cut gatefold sleeve.

Thursday Signs To Epitaph

Thursday have signed on with Epitaph Records. Lead singer Geoff Rickly had this to say to Alternative Press about the signing: “One of our biggest concerns was that we find a situation where we could be free to just be Thursday. Epitaph have continually voiced their desire to help us become the band that we have always wanted to be. It’s a great feeling to have a label encourage you to be more socially conscious and politically active. It’s a great feeling to have a label owner push you to explore the most experimental and challenging aspects of your band’s music instead of dissuading you. It’s a truly great feeling to be working with a label that all of our friends have had so many great experiences with.”

They plan on releasing their next full-length sometime in spring ‘09.

Dear And The Headlights Get “Drunk”

In conjunction with today’s release of the new Dear and the Headlights album, Drunk Like Bible Times, Spinner is currently hosting a stream of the record in its entirety.  I’ve yet to sneak a listen, but I have high hopes for this album as their vastly overlooked previous full-length, Small Steps, Heavy Hooves, was one of my favorite records of 2007.

Check out the stream right HERE.
