Band Spotlight: Dan Webb & The Spiders

What do they sound like?: A bar band that’s actually really good.
Why YOU Should Listen!: Music fans (myself included) sometimes put too much emphasis on bands pushing the boundaries with music. It’s fucking music. If it moves you, no matter how simple or complex the chords and melodies are, it’s good. When you strip all the hype and pretentious attitude away, that’s the shit that matters. It’s like somebody complaining about an ice cream sandwich; just shut up and enjoy, asshole.
This is the feeling I got when I heard Boston-based band Dan Webb & The Spiders’ self-titled (and self-released I assume) album. I can’t find too much info about them. I don’t know their previous bands which they mention on this press release and maybe it’s better that way. I don’t need to know credentials. So while much of this band is a mystery to me, their simplistic approach to rock ‘n’ roll is not. All the songs on the album are catchy, hook-laden jams. It’s got a little Guided By Voices, some Desaparecidos and hell, I can hear a little No Age’s in the band’s music. Check out the band’s Myspace and give it a listen.
Oh and on a side note, I think this band should get into a fight with that Aussie who is trying to steal the first half of their moniker. Reclaim the throne!
