Song of the Day: Charles Bradley – “Lovin’ You, Baby”

“Loving You baby” sticks out on Charles Bradley’s latest LP No Time For Dreaming not because it’s the most powerful song, or even the most thoughtful. This song grabs you because in an LP of that almost plays like a memoir full of life lessons, Charles finally breaks down. He stops being the teacher and the preacher and allows a damage heart to cry out loud. The utter vulnerability of the track brings a classic sort of heartache that evokes Otis Redding not only aesthetically, but in a more visceral way. You feel the man’s pain, and almost feel guilty for enjoying it as much as you do.
