Song Of The Day: Wild Flag – “Glass Tambourine”

Wild Flag‘s “Future Crimes” b/t “Glass Tambourine” 7-inch was definitely the best thing I picked up on Record Store Day 2011. The band features Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney, Mary Timony of Helium, and Rebecca Cole of The Minders. So needless to say, with all those credentials, expectations were pretty high from the band’s inception.

“Glass Tambourine” feels like a perfect combination of all those previous groups; psychedelic-influenced riffage, casual-but-catchy vocals, and post-punk tinged freakouts. The band are proof that supergroups can work sometimes.

I can’t wait for their debut full-length, which is set for a Fall release. For now, I’ll just play these two songs on repeat for the next few months.
