Dear Tonight, The New Dress, Scream Hello, Attica Attica | Lost & Found, Brooklyn, NY | 6/14/2008

The last Dear Tonight show has come and gone, and a phenomenal hardcore band is no more. Dear Tonight, formed in 2001, broke up this past Saturday after an incredible show at Brooklyn’s Lost & Found bar, surrounded by friends, fans, and great bands. Sets by Attica Attica, In First Person, LNWF favorites The New Dress, and Scream Hello led up to shit totally blowing up when DT took the floor in their usual cacophony of hardcore deliciousness.  I’m sad that DT decided to break up but it was a privilege to have known this band, been around when they were, and to have been there that night.

Bridge and Tunnel, Slingshot Dakota, Attica! Attica! | Fontanas | 6/05/2008

Bridge and Tunnel and Attica! Attica! played Fontanas in NYC last night with their friends Slingshot Dakota. B & T put on a great show as usual and the new songs from their upcoming full-length sounded great. The record is definitely one of our most anticipated releases of the year so be on the lookout for it this summer from the great people at No Idea.

This was the first time I saw Attica! Attica! I knew of them because of the Marathon connection but I was not expecting them to perform as an acoustic duo. They pulled it off well despite a few slip ups, which were played off well (perhaps their first tour together?). For the last two songs Pat and Jeff of B& T joined them on stage to play.

More about the show and photos after the jump.

Album Review: Attica! Attica! “Dead Skin/Dried Blood” (Red Leader)

Aaron Scott, whom you probably know from his stints fronting De La Hoya and Marathon, is back with Attica! Attica!, a result of him roaming the US and turning his travels into a varied and heartfelt album, Dead Skin/Dried Blood, on Red Leader Records.

If you’ve listened to his previous bands you know Aaron’s an incredible lyricist and singer. Personally I think he could make Greg Graffin of Bad Religion look like a chump, but whatever. Dead Skin/Dried Blood is full of songs about everything from war and protest (”Way Down In Gitmo” and “The Kid’s War”) to what drives him and other artists to keep on touring and living the lives they do (”A Dirge To The Underground”). It’s all a bit different from the blistering punk and hardcore of his previous works, as Aaron goes from near-acapella, piano, to reggae-influenced guitar and bass and a solo acoustic guitar. And if you’re not prepared for it, it can definitely be a surprise. However, I love it, and can definitely feel the miles of travel between two coasts that he’s trying to convey here.
