Video: Be Your Own Pet - “Becky”

Be Your Own Pet have released their, I’m assuming, last music video as a band for the song “Becky.” The video was directed by Marvin Jarrett. The band recently announced they would be breaking up after their remaining U.K. tour dates.

Be Your Own Pet Break Up!

Be Your Own Pet bring their song “Bummer Time” to life by breaking up after they finish their next few UK tour dates.

The band posted this announcement on their website.
“To all of our fans,We are sad to bring you the news that our upcoming shows in the UK (dates below) are going to be our last as a band. We thank you for all your love and support these past few years - its been a blast but the time has come for the 4 of us to go our separate ways.”

We can assume that their current side projects will continue on and new “ex-member” bands will sprout up soon. Perhaps they are trying to get out of the clutches of Universal?

Be Your Own Pet Get Violent…With Food!

Be Your Own Pet’s new record Get Awkward is one of my favorites of the year thus far. It’s full of gritty guitars and great hooks that will make the Christian mothers in Middle America cringe. Universal doesn’t want to offend these mothers, hence the big buzz on the blogs last week about Universal pulling three tracks off Be Your Own Pet’s new record because the suits deemed the lyrics too violent. The tracks Becky, Blow Yr Mind and Black Hole can be found pretty easily (wink wink) with simple searches of Hype Machine. You should definitely pick them up, unless you want to import the cd for $30. Supposedly the songs will come out in the US in EP form later this year.

Another violent song that snuck it’s way onto the album “Food Fight” has a brand new video for you to enjoy below. Watch out for flying pizza!

Be Your Own Pet, The King Left | Maxwells, Hoboken, NJ | 2/21/08

be your own pet

Be Your Own Pet ripped through a ferocious set last night at Maxwell’s showcasing a lot of the new tracks from their forthcoming Get Awkward (Ecstatic Peace).  New tracks included “Zombie Graveyard Party!” apparently about “fucking zombies,” “Becky,” the self proclaimed “slow jam of the year” and “Food Fight” which was about yelling “Food Fight!” really loud.  The front of the crowd was dancing so much, that someone’s lipstick fell on stage which prompted vocalist Jemina to pick it up and put on her “War Paint” as seen above.  She also dropped a nice anecdote hoping that said lipstick didn’t just give her herpes.  Beautiful.  The show ended with the crowd taking over the stage and stomping all over it. Check out the photos after the jump.

Supporting BYOP, was our friends in The King Left who warmed up the crowd nicely with their pounding, dancey drum beats and catchy melodies.  These dudes continue to get better with each peformance, make sure to check them out now! Pictures from the show below.

Those crazed and super-caffeinated youngsters known as Be Your Own Pet are set to hit the road in support of their sophomore effort Get Awkward, which is due out on March 18th via Ecstatic Peace/Universal. You can check out the new BYOP tunes at their myspace.

For a handful of the dates, they will be joined by The Ravonettes, who are releasing their new album Lust Lust Lust (Vice) on February 19th. Check out their new single “Dead Sound” below.
