Live at Generation Records on Wednesday, September 29th. The free, all-ages show starts at 7 pm. As always, entry will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Come out early and buy some records.

Fake Problems will be supporting their brand new record Real Ghosts Caught On Tape, which comes out on September 21st via Side One Dummy. We’ll have plenty of copies available at the store.

Walter Schreifels (just in case you’ve live under a rock for the last 25 years) has been a member of revered bands like Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Youth of Today and, most recently, the reunited Rival Schools. He released his debut solo record An Open Letter To The Scene this summer via Academy Fight Song. He’ll be playing cuts off that, along with a few covers and surprises.

So mark your calenders for 9/29 and we’ll see you there.

Column: “The Five Reasons I Record In My Bathroom” By Sarin McHugh

Posted on 10 August 2010 by late night wallflower

With the proliferation of gadgets and the constant upgrading of technology, making your own record is easier than ever. We’ve all heard rumors of people making records on planes, on their iPhones, during class… wherever basically. But as we know that wasn’t the case when we were coming up.

Most of us grew up without Garage Band or iTunes or Myspace. We grew up with boomboxes and 4 tracks and answering machines (Yes, I called my house and recorded a song into our answering machine once. And it’s a song I still play). We found solace in the hiss. We hid behind the tape heads and found little nooks that sounded good. And we ALL knew the best place in the world to record was the bathroom. The tiles. The ceramic. The sound bounced around the room like a Superball.

Of course, if I had 15 or 20 grand to make a record that sounded great, I would. I’d get some horns, some strings, a gospel chorus of black girls, maybe a nice cameo here and there. But I’d be hard pressed to make a record that makes me as happy and as excited as one that’s made in my dirty little bathroom.

So here you go. Other than the fact that I can’t afford 10 hours in a studio with some douchebag “engineer” who I’ve never met before, these are the top five reasons that I prefer making music in my tiny little bathroom.

Read them after the jump.

Band Spotlight: Ty Segall

Posted on 01 August 2010 by Matthew

Who: Ty Segall

What do they sound like?: T-Rex, Jay Reatard, all things fuzzy.

Why YOU Should Listen!: Ladies and gentleman, I have found your summer 2010 soundtrack. Fuck all this goo goo over Gaga nonsense. Are we really still talking about Katy Perry? Really!? Ok, this guy has NOTHING to do with that world but Ty Segall should be the one dominating your headphones during these hot months. So crack open some High Life and throw some Ty Segall on the turntable. Rinse and repeat.

Last year, I was deeply saddened by the loss of garage rock troubadour Jay Reatard. Sure, he was an asshole, but his songs were some of the best songs I’ve heard come outta the garage rock stratosphere. Now, Mr. Segall, who has isn’t exactly a newcomer to the scene, is here to take his place.

Segall’s latest record Melted is an perfect mix of Reatard’s punk atittude and Marc Bolan-esque anthematic power rock. My personal favorites on the record include “Girlfriend,” “My Sunshine,” and “Sad Fuzz.” I don’t know what to else to say, the album is just so, so good. Check out a lil’ sample below punk, buy it and go see him on tour.

“Girlfriend”
