Polar Bear Club Posts New Mp3, Spin Band Of The Day

Spin.com has realized the awesomeness that is Polar Bear Club and did a nice write up on them here. Best part is that the post includes a free mp3 of “Our Ballads” which has only been available for streaming on MySpace page. The track comes from their new record Sometimes Things Just Disappear, which is slated for a December release through Red Leader.

Dethklok Have Come For Your Women

Cartoon Network’s bringers of metal have arrived with their face-crushing, devil-horn-a’raisin’ debut The Dethalbum. Warning, the following mp3 will most likely result in the following things: melting of eyeballs, instant hair growth - most likely shoulder length, philosophy change with the principal belief being that Rob Halford and Lemmy are God, metal babes with handfuls of cheap beer knocking at your door, a uniform of boots with shorts, last name change-most likely to Murderface, and the statement “god, Gorillaz suck. Dethklok eat their souls,” among a handful of other side effects. An mp3 of “Hatredcopter” is below. Don’t say we didn’t warn you sucker. Be on the lookout for an interview in the near future.

Antelope | Fort Reno, D.C. | 07/26/07

“What the fuck is this?” That’s what I was thinking the first time I saw Antelope play last summer. All of their songs sounded very similar and consisted of two or three chords and the same phrases repeated over and over, which were mostly about demons and ghosts. Now, a year has passed and they are one of my favorite bands. In a year’s time I’ve grown to appreciate what they were doing which is emphasizing minimalism. Yes, the music is very simple and down right repetitious but I find that pretty appealing considering that many popular bands are so loaded with over the top guitars and complicated lyrics.

The Berg Sans Nipple | Pianos, NYC | 05/27/07

The Berg Sans Nipple filled Pianos with their mesmerizing electropop last Sunday night. The stage was packed with various instruments, machines and cables, which would lead you to believe that there would be others joining band members Lori Sean Berg and Shane Aspegren on stage. From the first song, it was clear that appearances were not what they seemed. If there’s one thing The Berg Sans Nipple excels at, it’s multitasking. Throughout their set, both members diligently hopped from one machine and instrument to another.

Band Spotlight: Spanish Bombs

The first time I actually heard of Spanish Bombs was during my interview with Jeff from Modern Life Is War. Fittingly, guitarist Tim Churchman is now the new bassist for MLIW. Regardless, I finally purchased the band’s self-titled debut EP (which was released on Chunksaah last year) somewhat recently. The six-song debut showcases a powerful mix of Born Against inspired angsty-hardcore with the new-school punch and tenacity of MLIW. This isn’t a band that’s interested in mixing in any metalcore riffage or pitbull-esque growling. Where’s all the “real” punk rock you ask? Well, my answer is that it hasn’t been hiding at all. It’s alive, angry and thriving. Spanish Bombs are just another example of this.

**UPDATE** I’ve received news through the grapevine that this band is no more. I wasn’t sure because of the whole Modern Life Is War thing but I’ve been told “it’s done. Regardless, be sure to pick the EP up. Chalk it up to not being on the ball “

You can pick up the EP here.
