The Plug Awards - Pluses And Minuses

I was lucky enough to attend the 3rd Annual Plug Awards tonight in NYC at the cavernous Terminal 5. Wait, you’ve never heard of the Plug Awards?! Well in case you (and pretty much anyone else outside of New York City actually) need a recap, it’s basically a big awards show celebrating independent music. This year’s show was hosted by Patton Oswalt and featured performances by Bats for Lashes, White Denim, The Forms, Dizzee Rascal, Jose Gonzalez, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Check out my rant, and a few notes from Matt,  after the jump.

Patton Oswalt To Host 2008 Plug Awards

Hot Damn! According to his website, our favorite comic Patton Oswalt will be hosting the Plug Awards, an annual indie rock award festival. The event will be taking place on March 6, 2008 at Terminal 5. You can currently vote for your favorites in indie, metal, punk, zines, webzines and a whole lot more at the Plug website. Nominees include Fucked Up, Baroness, Pissed Jeans, No Age, Gogol Bordello, Arcade Fire, High On Fire and Black Lips among others. We suggest you do a fill in for the Music Blog / Website category. (wink wink nudge nudge)

Enjoy some Patton.

Plug Awards ‘08 Nominees Announced

Well it’s that time of year again. Break out the pen and paper and start making out the long list of your favorite albums for the annual “Top 10″ and “Best Of” articles that will soon begin bombarding the press in the coming weeks. The folks at the Plug Awards want to help you out and jog your memory of the past year in music by having you vote on their list of nominees for the equivalent of the hipster Grammies. You can vote here for some of the years best acts, which features the usual suspects list of Battles, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, and more, as well as some interesting surprises like Fucked Up, Om, and Health. The actual award show will be held at Terminal Five in New York city on March 6th, 2008, with satellite parties being held in Miami, Chicago, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles before the event. Go support democracy and vote!
