3:50pm: Alfie: All throughout Roky Erickson’s set, I couldn’t help but think about the recent NME interview with Keith Richards, where Keith complains that most bands nowadays forget the roll and only keep the rock. Roky Erickson and his band, the Explosions, totally have the ROLL down. They played a blistering 50 minute set, including 13th Floor Elevators songs, as well as solo material with enough groove and soul to inspire even those who were unaware of who Roky was (and, believe me, there were a few of those present) to get into their set. Roky seemed more alive when he was playing his songs, and proved he was still capable of tearing it up on guitar.

The Good, The Bad, and The Queen | In store-Apple, Soho | 3/12/07

On Monday I skipped three classes so I could wait in line for 3 hours to see a free 25 minutes in store performance by British supergroup The Good, The Bad, and The Queen at the Apple store in SOHO. The band seemed too good to be true consisting of former members of The Clash, Blur, Fela Kuti, and The Verve.

For some reason it seemed like a good idea not to wear a heavy coat on a winter day so I shivered outside while old eccentrics with funny haircuts walked past asking random people standing in line what they were standing in line for. Some of the polite people responded but soon got tired of saying the band’s lengthy name and eventually muttered “concert” just to get people to continue walking down the street.
