Nick Cave Looking To Be Immortalized Naked and Bronzed

Spinner.com is reporting that Nick Cave has plans to give back to his hometown of Victoria, by giving them a semi-nude statue of himself in which he is riding a horse.  It doesn’t detail which part of Nick would be nude, but if he is riding a horse we hope for his sake that he is wearing pants.  In most cases this would be completely bizarre but this is Nick Cave, so we will accept it as normal. Apparently Nick is looking for donations toward the project which could cost at least $50k.

Camel Cigarettes Exploit The Indie Rock Universe

Apparently, Camel cigarettes decided to market it’s cancer sticks to the “Indie Rock” crowd and has gotten themselves in a shit ton of trouble. The so called “Indie Rock Universe” campaign was featured in a recent issue of Rolling Stone, and has caused law suits from nine states for using cartoon in cigarette advertising (RIP Joe Camel). It is also speculated that the bands who were not aware of the use of their name in the campaign may launch a class action law suit. Check out this article on Stereogum for more info. The campaign covers a wide array of the underground from “Intergalactic Ear Killers” (Pissed Jeans, Fucked Up, High On Fire, Lightning Bolt), Angry Red Planet (Against Me!, Ted Leo, Nightwatchman) to the Spazmodica (Les Savy Fav, Parts and Labor, Liars). Hell, Ted Leo was not happy winning a contest for Taco Bell he didn’t enter, I am sure this will not sit well with most if not all of the bands who were linked to this campaign.

Strike Anywhere, Ted Leo, Girl Talk and Taco Bell?

As previously reported by Jason, Taco Bell was holding a “Feed The Beat” contest to give touring bands free Taco Bell, likely in hopes of having creepy fans to follow the bands to the nearest Taco Bell after the show. Good choice on picking teenage girl heart throbs Armor For Sleep. Among the other winners were Ted Leo, whom has already expressed the fact that he did not enter this contest according to Pitchfork. Taco Bell has yet to remove his name from the Feed The Beat website at this time. According to the website other winners include Strike Anywhere, Lemuria, Girl Talk and Panthers to name a few. Strike Anywhere’s people have confirmed the band entered the contest just because it was a goof and free food is just that. I think I’ll pass though

Taco Bell Likes Touring Bands

Are you in a band that is on the road constantly, playing your heart out night after night? Do you like to eat? Do you find yourself scrapped for food money because your post-rock experimental, jazz-funk techno side project just isn’t bringing in enough money? The fine folks at Taco Bell may have the solution you’ve been looking for. The faux-Mexican food chain is asking for you to submit information about your band and fall tour schedule, in exchange for being entered to win a $500 gift card, good at any Taco Bell location. All band members must be 18 years old and you must be a rock band. Think you qualify for this odd, but strangely awesome promotion? More info, along with the submission form can be found here.
