Wilco Sing “Take Me Out To Ball Game” At Wrigley Field

A day after their set at Lollapalooza, Wilco stopped by Wrigley Field to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Although he was wearing a Cubs jersey, leader Jeff Tweedy admitted he was a Cardinals fan. Shockingly, no sausages or Wrigley Dogs were thrown in his direction. Watch it below.

It’s hard for me to be totally objective when reviewing Wilco because they’re probably my favorite band around. I always herald Wilco as one of the few bands that sounds better live than on their albums, which is a big feat considering their albums are great. I’ve heard various people call their latest album, Sky Blue Sky(Nonesuch), boring, but I disagree. These naysayers have to experience the material off of it live because it was rollicking good time.

The crowd around me seemed into the show, singing along and dancing. Great energy. I’m glad I was on the floor and not in mezzanine because I was dancing like a fool (thus, the lack of pictures). Wilco was tight, utilizing dramatic pauses, guitar solos and walls of sound to draw the audience in. I love all the guys of Wilco, but let me just say, Nels Cline is a guitar god who plays his guitar like it’s a part of him. Whether it was a hyper number like “I’m a Wheel” or a somber sing-a-long like “Via Chicago,” they were on point.

Listen To Wilco Down Under

Couldn’t get tickets to a Wilco show near you ’cause it sold out? Although not ensuring the release of more tix, maybe this message courtesy of Wilco’s myspace will help satiate your thirst for some Wilco:

“Greetings Friends,
We’ve flown halfway around the world to bring you Wilco live from the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, Australia this Saturday April, 21st. Put the coffee on and log in at 6:00am Central Time (that’s 9:00pm in Sydney) to listen live. ”

So put on that coffee. Right on.

Wilco To Stream New Album Again, Tour

I received this wonderful note courtesy of the Wilco mailing list:”greetings friends,
as part of our ongoing effort to rock the homes, offices, dorms, and internet cafes of America and the world — we’re starting another on- demand stream of Sky Blue Sky on Sunday night at 12:01 a.m. Central time and continuing it non-stop for 24 straight hours. Make a note of it.”

Wilco previously did an on-demand stream of Sky Blue Sky (Nonesuch) at wilcoworld.net on March 11th. If you missed it, now’s your chance to give it a listen. I gave it a few listens and am very excited about the release on May 15th.

Wilco currently has two US tour dates set- Chicago’s Vic Theatre on April 6th (Jeff Tweedy solo) and Bonnaroo on June 17. Then they head abroad to Australia for the rest of April and Europe for most of May. As far as other US tour dates are concerned, the e-mail also noted to check their website because “more dates for June (mostly eastern half of North America) will be on the site next week.”

I’ve Got Reservations About So Many Things, But Not About Wilco

I can predict the future. I foresee myself sitting at my laptop all day Sunday. The new Wilco album, Sky Blue Sky (Nonesuch), is set to drop on May 15th. In true fan-friendly Wilco fashion, it will be available for listening over two months in advance. The band has also made the song “What Light” available for download. What would we be without wishful thinking…and Wilco?

You can listen to the sneak preview at the band’s official site. Sunday, March 11th, from 2p-2a GMT, 10a-10p EST, 7a-7p PST. You can also pre-order it at amazon.
