Bouncing Souls lead crooner Greg Attonito and his wife Shanti Wintergate are celebrating the release of their children’s book “I Went for a Walk” with an extensive reading tour. Along the way, the two will read the book and play a few acoustic songs. This is your chance parents to be truly hip so be sure to bring the kiddies! Punk rockers, please don’t be the children scaring-drunk as a skunk-leather-clad bozo in the back screaming for “East Coast Fuck You!” Tour dates after the jump.
I’ve been around, so to speak.
Not in that sort of dirty way that your mother and high school sex-ed videos warn you about, but in the sense that I’ve traveled. When I was younger I lived in Greece, and had the chance to go to England and then Germany for about a week each at different points. The fact that I moved from Queens to live in Greece for almost 7 years more or less based on my mother’s suggestion that it might be fun is probably an indication of the latent desire to see something new within me.
Since then, I’ve been to the aforementioned UK and Germany, I moved back to the US, Canada (Vancouver specifically, so it wasn’t just a quick drive over the border from New York either), back to Greece again a few times, and this past summer went to Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. I’d still like to maybe see France, Japan, go to Canada again…you get the point. Even the potential to meet some new people in a new neighborhood is fun to me, because it’s someone I’ve never met before in a place I’ve never seen before. Sometimes I’ll just wander around New York and look up at the buildings to see what it’d be like to be a tourist in my own hometown.
It’s something you see a lot if you find yourself drawn towards independent music, movies, etc. A desire to travel and see the world, or at least get out of your current surroundings, even for a bit. Just to make sure there’s more out there than the city limits and endless miles of highway. And while I’m not as big a traveler as others in the punk rock community (trust me on that, I’m a homebody compared to most), I’d like to think that I know what they’re talking about when they just wanna get out.
Love it or hate it, Warped Tour still packs the kiddies in every single summer. This year was the first one I attended in three years. Some additions, actually, one really made it worth the trip. Against Me!, who back in the day cried that they would never play such event, were one of the headliners on the main stage. It’s pretty amazing to see how much this band has developed. They have gone from this tiny small band playing basements around the country to this full-blown sensation. Many a old fan have rejected the band’s and labeled the almighty “S” word but still, scorn for this band is simply futile. They deserve all the credit the receive because, frankly, they just might be the best punk band on the planet. I’m sure they would rather not even be called a punk band anymore though seeing how a handful of fuckheads slashed their van’s tires when they signed to Fat Wreck and stole their early demo’s of Searching For A Former Clarity last year while on tour with Lucero. Tom Gabel and I talked about all these things Saturday and I will post excerpts from the interview after I’m done transcribing it. Meanwhile, enjoy some awesome pictures I got from the press pit. Thursday’s set was nothing like I have seen before. To see Geoff Rickly continue on as blood spewed out of his head was pretty inspirin
g. I wanted to get some pictures of Joan Jett, of course, but I was too late. Thwarted.

I have a ton of more pictures…but I’ll post them later…
