Cursive have posted the second video off their fantastic release Mama, I’m Swollen. This time the band got actress Tania Raymonde who is best known as Ben Linus’ daughter on Lost. We would almost go as far to say that the video even has somewhat of a ‘Lost’ feel as they are running through the woods, but some nerd would probably complain that the vegetation isn’t tropical enough, therefore bares no resemblance to the show. Either way this song is catchy as fuck, check out the video below.
Cursive made their network Television debut on David Letterman this past Friday. They played the song “From Our Hips” from their brand new album Mama, I’m Swollen. Check it out below.
After a few times of seeing Cursive live, I’ve figured out that are three different bands that can show up at one of their gigs. There is the really drunk one – which is mostly fueled by lead singer Tim Kasher’s famous, belligerent rants. There is also the really god awful one. Back in the salad days of LNWF, I wrote a review (which, I am not going to link here because I’m sure it’s god awful) saying how I thought they might break up after a truly horrid show at Webster Hall. Yeah, it can get that bad sometimes. Finally, there is the super pro version, where the band blazes through their back catalog with little to no talking or ranting from Tim. Monday’s show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg was the latter.
Cursive have given you a choice in how much to pay for a digital download of their brand new record Mama, I’m Swollen (Saddle Creek). Say it’s March 3rd, you pay $3. March 4th = $4, etc. So get to it and purchase the record now. If you are a Cursive devotee, I can’t see why you would wait anyways. I just got my copy and it sounds fantastic so far.
Saddle Creek also has CD and deluxe LP physical editions of the record available. This option includes a download card for additional bonus music and videos, along with artwork and handwritten lyrics by Cursive frontman Tim Kasher. It looks pretty sweet.
Cursive’s show at theMercury Lounge on Tuesday night was dedicated to playing material from their new album, which they are two weeks into recording. They played the entire new album from start to finish in the planned sequence, though as Kasher mentioned the track list will probably get pulled in a million directions before release. The eleven new songs were played in about 45 minutes with possible song titles like “Blood Red Sun,” “Going to Hell” and “Diablo.” Usually, Kasher writes loose concept albums so is this one possibly about Hell? The third track they played, “Hips” as labeled on the set list (see photo below) was amazing bringing together the best of their older works like Domestica with the refinement of their newer albums.
The new songs had some balls to them that the band did not really show on Happy Hollow. New drummer Cornbread Compton makes for a great addition to the band, adding a new style that seemed to give the band some new life. Kasher seemed to be more emotionally invested in the new songs, perhaps just because they are so fresh. He seemed more excited to be playing these songs then anytime I saw them during the touring cycle for Happy Hollow. Needless to say, we here at LNWF are very amped on this new album.
