Everybody’s Got R-R-R-Remix Fever

Posted on April 8th, 2008 by Jason

It seems like everybody is getting into the whole “Music 2.0″ thing lately by letting their fans remix songs. Here are a few examples.

Radiohead has offered up the track “Nude” for musical sacrifice to all you Ableton-ites out there. The only catch? You have to pay $0.99 for each part of the song off of iTunes (vocal, bass, guitar, drums, strings). If you’re track is voted into the top 10 on RadioheadRemix.com, the band will listen to your sweet tune. Not much of a prize, we know, but hey, maybe they’ll ask you to open up their next tour or something! So I guess keep working on your best Thom Yorke impression there kid.

English math-rock whiz kids Foals are asking fans to remix their song “Electric Bloom.”  You can find all the info and the files right here, courtesy of Last.fm.

Although they aren’t offering you the chance to remix their songs, L.A. noise makers Health had some of their friends try their hand at a track or two. The tracklist includes remixes by Crystal Castles, Thrust Lab, Pink Skulls, and many more. You can preorder the album, Health//Disco, over at Insound or get your grubby hands on a copy when it’s released on May 13th.

Spoon Get R-R-R-R-Re-Remixed

Posted on December 12th, 2007 by Jason

It’s the holiday season and that means even your favorite indie artists want to help out when it comes to giving to those in need (and no, an Xbox 360 does not count). Spoon teamed up with everyone’s favorite beat maker, Diplo, and had him go to town on the track “Don’t You Evah,” off their latest Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. The track is available from the Merge Records store, right here, and all proceeds fund the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition. We hear at LNWF haven’t heard the track, but if Diplo is behind the board, expect some funky, funky stuff.

The charity does not end there however, as Spoon also signed one of their show posters put it up on eBay, all in the name of charity. Check out the Merge listing here for that and more auctions and get your credit cards out and ready.
