We here at Late Night Wallflower have begun a wonderful partnership with the fantastic site, Phrequency.com. Yeah, we hug it out a lot. Call each other on the phone at 3 A.M. Drink our morning coffee together while playing footsies. It’s love.

So, along with a column for yours truly, you can expect a top five breakdown of recent stories from their site. We will also have a Top 5 on their site, called New York Moment with Late Night Wallflower. Who said, Philly and NY kids can’t get along? Just don’t call us “the younger brother.” Then, there will be problems. Here we go, here we go, here we go!

1. The Roots and Sheryl Crow Welcome America

2. Sonic Youth: Eternally Young?
“Sonic Youth are aging well. I don’t mean physically of course (although if I look as good as Kim Gordon does when I’m 56, I will die a happy woman) – I’m talking musically. With 16 albums under their belt – not to mention 25+ years in the biz, and god knows how many exhilarating and life-changing experiences – these NYC alt-rockers have successfully resisted doing the one thing that causes death to alt-rockers everywhere: going soft.”

3. Hey Monday: Swimming in a Sea of 14 year-olds
“What did I get myself into? Last night at the First Unitarian Church, hoards of fans traveled to the hot, sweaty basement to revel in the genre-bending, cathartic, religious experience that is the music of Hey Monday. Emerging from the metaphorical Sarlacc Pit in the dead of summer covered in sweat (and possibly tears), I knew I had witnessed something magical, something extraordinary, something that has been done a million times before?”

4. Leftover Crack Turns Rotten
“The punx (note the X) were out in full force on Independence Day at the Starlight Ballroom to see their heroes, the Casualties and Leftover Crack turn a bunch of young suburbanites into their own miniature Johnny Rottens.”
