As previously reported by Jason, Taco Bell was holding a “Feed The Beat” contest to give touring bands free Taco Bell, likely in hopes of having creepy fans to follow the bands to the nearest Taco Bell after the show. Good choice on picking teenage girl heart throbs Armor For Sleep. Among the other winners were Ted Leo, whom has already expressed the fact that he did not enter this contest according to Pitchfork. Taco Bell has yet to remove his name from the Feed The Beat website at this time. According to the website other winners include Strike Anywhere, Lemuria, Girl Talk and Panthers to name a few. Strike Anywhere’s people have confirmed the band entered the contest just because it was a goof and free food is just that. I think I’ll pass though

Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, The Thermals, Birds of Avalon | McCarren Pool | 8/12/07

Despite the immense heat and the reported illness of a close family member, Ted Leo still looked and sounded like a million bucks at McCarren on Sunday. In between tracks from his new album, Living With The Living (Touch and Go) and older cuts, Mr. Leo bounced all over the stage and still cracked wise with the huge audience. Although the show took place in a giant swimming pool with thousands of fans, the group still played their bouncy, catchy-as-hell pop songs with a punk edge, as if they were in your neighbors garage with 20 people. The highlight of the show, you ask? Well it came when Ted started covering Daft Punk’s “One More Time” to the wild applause of the audience. Or maybe it was when the girl who was way too drunk came on stage and tried to get in between Ted’s legs to do god knows what. Or maybe it was the fact that The Pharmacists put on one hell of a live show that you are soon not going to forget. Yeah, that’s it.

Show Round Up: July 19th:

Posted on July 19th, 2007 by Matthew

Things have been kinda slow with all of us here at LNWF. Probably because we are wasting away in an AC-fueled haven, eating tubs of Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream, curled up in a ball, and cursing the sun. Well, while we hide like a bunch of dweeby vampires, there’s still plenty of stuff to do this week for all of you “others.”

First off, our friend Ronen Kauffman is doing a reading and signing for his book New Brunswick, NJ, Goodbye at Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ tonight. Special guests are planned so get all the info here. Be on the look out for an interview I did with Ronen in the next few days.

On Friday, root-channelling revivalists Lewis and Clarke will celebrate the release of their new album Blasts of Holy Birth (La Société Expéditionnaire) at Brooklyn’s Soundfix. The band, made up also of members of Man Man and Rachels, will captivate all those Williamsburg hipsters like nobodies business. Go check them out!

Watch The Human Giant Marathon Performances

Posted on May 22nd, 2007 by Matthew

After all that bullshitting over pimpin’ our rides and giving already spoiled brats their own sweet sixteen birthday party, MTV’s hilarious new show Human Giant lets us all know that there is still an ounce of life left in the network (just an ounce, though).

However, the show isn’t slaying in the ratings department. So, MTV gave the boys free reign for twenty four hours at the studio this past weekend and put them up to the challenge of getting a million hits on their website.

The boys not only reached well over a million hits (1,212,651 hits to be exact), guaranteeing a second season, they invited some of their favorite comedians and bands along for the ride.

MTV has now posted all the musical performances from the marathon, including Mastodon (fresh off their performance with Against Me! the night before at Roseland), Ted Leo, and The National, among many others.

“>Check the videos out here.

Human Giant is on every Thursday at 10:30pm on MTV. Your life would be so much better if you watched it. LET’S GO!
