Video: LCD Soundsystem at Terminal 5 | 3/30/11

Posted on March 31st, 2011 by Matthew

LCD Soundsystem have been playing “warm up shows” at Terminal 5 this week, leading up to their “last concert” at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Pardon all the quotes here but I have a hard time believing any band who says they are playing their last shows. Regardless, my snarky, jaded ass had a lot of fun last night at T5. The band sounded amazing during their three hour and change set.

Here is a video of their opening song “Dance Yrself Clean.” Maybe you should go see them at MSG. See you in 5 years James.

No Age pulled what was presumably some sort of “punk rock fuck you” move by doing a 40 minute ambient noise set when opening for Cold War Kids at Terminal 5 on Thursday, which was moved from Radio City Music Hall very last minute. The wall of noise actually sounded pretty cool, but perhaps would have been more appreciated if interspersed with a few of their songs. Here are some photos of the guys manipulating sound.

Guided By Voices @ Terminal 5 – Show Of The Year. Period.

Dear Bob Pollard,

I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous about your reunion shows with GBV. While I fully support you bringing the band back, I didn’t know what to expect. Sure, the videos looked great so far but Terminal 5, that place sucks man!!! And hey, we ain’t getting any younger, amirightoramiright?

I am truly sorry for ever doubting you. Your show at said venue was THEE show of the year. Even though I was all the way in the back, I was dancing and screaming like a fool to every lyric. So much energy and passion and a shocking amount of precision for a group of dudes in their 50s who chain-smoke and drink the entire concert.

You showed everyone how it’s done. You haven’t lost a single step in all these years since I last saw GBV. Unreal good sir. And to borrow a line from one of your most beloved songs, “don’t stop now.”

Sincerely,

MFP

Animal Collective Terminal 5

Animal Collective played to a sold out crowd at Terminal 5 and the performance was terrible. While I enjoy the band on record, their live show leaves much to be desired. The overlaying of the sounds come together as one big mess, making some of their songs almost unrecognizable. I presume the band is better on mood enhancing drugs judging by the reaction of all the hippies at the show, including one kid who had a attached a unicorn horn to his head perhaps in an effort to make his spastic dancing seem even more crazy. To sum it up:

Animal Collective on record = Good
Animal Collective live = Good for hippies
