Alternative Press Reveals Hot Water Music Reunion Plans

Posted on October 25th, 2007 by Matthew

Confirming all the rumors, the new Alternative Press features and exclusive article with Hot Water Music bassist Jason Black on the reunion and touring plans for the band. Jason had this to say in the article when ask to confirm whether or not the band was getting back together.

“[Long pause] Probably. [Laughs] I mean, yeah, that seems to be the plan. I hate actually saying it out loud because we haven’t confirmed a show yet. We’re trying to get dates worked out right now. We’re all into it; as long as we can get the shows set up, we’ll be good to go.”

The article goes on to talk about those exact plans and whether or not the band will pull a Lawerence Arms and do a Hot Water Music/The Draft/Chuck Ragan tour. Regardless, check out the new issue out November 1st and freaking rejoice.

Ex-Gunmoll And Breathe In Members Form In The Red

Posted on October 11th, 2007 by Matthew

Mike Hale, former lead singer of Gunmoll, has started a new band with bassist Brett Matthews (Ex-Breathe In) and drummer Matt Glasgow called In The Red. Not straying too far way from Hale’s former project, the band has a very Leatherface/Hot Water Music influenced sound . Speaking of HWM, Mike will have a split 7-inch coming out with Chris Wollard, being released through Asian Man Records sometime in 2008.

In The Red’s Vol. 12 is available for pre-order at Rat Patrol Records. Check out the jams at their myspace here.

Interview With Jason Black Of The Draft

Since the release of their debut album In A Million Pieces (Epitaph) last year, the Draft have been keeping busy, touring the country with bands such as Alkaline Trio, Lifetime, and Planes Mistaken For Stars. But anyone familiar with the band members and their previous groups should know that the ethic is standard practice. The legacy of Hot Water Music is a tough one to top but the Draft have certainly proved the naysayers wrong in their efforts. With the inevitable newness starting to settle, the band has begun to plan their next steps.

I recently had a chance to ask bassist extraordinaire Jason Black a few questions. In the interview, he talks about the band’s upcoming plans, the present and future of their relationship with Epitaph, and the positives and negatives of being the “ex-Hot Water Music band.”

So you announced on your website that the band plans on recording a new album by the end of the year. What’s the status on it? When do you plan on releasing it? Well, that’s still a little up in the air. The status is that we’ve bitten off a bit more than we can chew at this point, so we’re not sure when the record’s coming out. Basically, we’re taking any pressure off of ourselves to meet any kind of deadline for recording or releasing a new records.

Is everything all set for the new 7-inch to be released? Not quite. It’s tracked and all, but we’re still tying up loose ends on the artwork and mastering and everything. It shouldn’t be delayed too badly.

Possible Hot Water Music Reunion at SXSW?

Posted on February 23rd, 2007 by Matthew

Along with the usual list of blog-favorites and heavyweights playing SWSW this year, something struck my eye while eying over the lineup. On Friday, March 16th, the No Idea/Volcom showcase will go down, featuring many excellent bands (Billy Reese Peters, Grabass Charlestons, J Church, etc.) and a “special guest” (I’m thinking Radon?). Perhaps the most interesting thing about the show, however, is that Chuck Ragan and The Draft will be playing together for the first time (I believe?) since the official break up of Hot Water Music. Will the two bands share the stage together at some point during the night? Regardless, it should be an awesome night.
