About a month ago, Avail’s Tim Barry stopped by Munford Elementary to perform some songs. Virgil from Surburban Home Records has decided to put the songs out onto a limited 7-inch release. The first run will include 300 on white vinyl and 700 on brown. It will most likely come out around the middle of September. Avail’s Tim Barry recently stopped by Mary Munford Elementary in Richmond, Virginia to play some songs for a bunch of second graders. He played two Woody Guthrie songs, along with one of his own tunes, done up “Munford style.” Our friend Virgil at Suburban Home Records is thinking about putting this out as a 7-inch. After hearing these songs, I say most definitely! Check out “Shoulda Oughta” below.

Against Me! leader Tom Gabel has announced that he is joining The Revival Tour this fall. The tour includes solo sets from Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Ben Nichols (Lucero) and Tim Barry (Avail). Dates are forthcoming. God, can you imagine if all these dude and their bands played this show too. Should be awesome regardless. Check out Against Me! on Leno from last night, June 18th, below.

Although I don’t feel too strongly about their new album, I was more than little excited to see the return of American Steel to the Big Apple. I was, however, a little worried about how the crowd would react to the band. The showcase, which featured both Lawrence Arms side projects the Falcon and Sundowner, along with Fake Problems, Tim Barry, and the Loved Ones, might have been either the perfect audience or the worst one. I still couldn’t decide but as soon as they started with the new number “Sons of Avarice,” I knew there were a handful of Am. Steel faithful in attendance. The band, unfortunely, played for only 20 minutes and did not play “Optimist,” but it didn’t matter really in the end. The band seemed incredibly happy to be back and if anything, it made me look forward to the Fest that much more.
